'Ennui'

The French have a noun that describes a feeling of listlessness and dissatisfaction arising from a lack of excitement. The word is ‘ennui’.

For many of my clients, #ennui is the reason that leads them to their first coaching session with me.

When discussing this recently, it made me recall a line from a poem by Dorothy Parker called ‘Fair Weather’ that has always resonated with me: ‘They sicken of the calm, who knew the storm’. 🌊

With many of my clients being military #veterans and #athletes and all of my clients being #highperformers in their own remit, it is of little surprise that ‘ennui’ occurs.

Rather than thinking of this as a problem needing urgent attention / redirection, I would like to encourage you to sit in this moment and feeling.

Reflect upon the trials and tribulations that have lead to this place of calm and shelter. You have landed!!

Seek to understand and name the emotion and accept that this feeling means that you have arrived where you aimed.

You have found a comfort zone.

Take a moment to reflect on this as evidence of #success and #victory.

Then you can ask the big question: What next…
